Gradescope

Gradescope is a grading platform for instructors that handles paper, digital and code assignments without asking teachers to change how they write them. Its home page says it is used at more than 2,600 universities by over 140,000 instructors and 3.2 million students.

It supports two kinds of work. Variable length assignments include problem sets and projects, where students upload PDFs or photos of their work. Fixed template assignments include worksheets, quizzes, bubble sheets and exams, which can be scanned in bulk. For bubble sheets, instructors create an answer key with point values and partial credit, Gradescope separates sheets by test version, grades them against the key, and the instructor confirms the marks.

Grading is built around a flexible rubric. Instructors can apply detailed feedback with one click, and rubric changes apply to work that has already been graded, which keeps scoring consistent. For code, students can submit from GitHub or Bitbucket, an autograder gives immediate feedback, and instructors can also grade by hand with inline comments.

Answer groups let instructors grade similar answers at once. For some question types, Gradescope AI forms the groups automatically for the instructor to review. Gradescope notes that answer groups and AI assisted grading are part of its Institutional license.

After grading, instructors can return work with one click, export grades to their own gradebook, handle regrade requests online, and view per question and per rubric statistics, including item analysis for bubble sheet exams.
